Mumbai: The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprised of former India great Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, has reduced candidates for the position of coach of the India India team to three candidates.
A senior Cricket board of directors in India (BCCI) admitted that although the Indian cricket board has received a number of requests, the CAC now narrowed down to its top three candidates – Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody.
A senior BCCI official made it clear that the decision to select the new Team India coach will be solely the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and neither the captain nor the BCCI could interfere with him.
“It is likely that the new coach will be any of these three – Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody,” he said.
The last application deadline is Sunday, July 9, and committee members are scheduled to hold their screening meeting on Monday, July 10.
While Moody and Sehwag had sent their applications to the post before the original deadline last month, Shastri had requested after the deadline extended to Sunday the resignation Anil Kumble of the position as head coach.
Several media have cited Ravi Shastri as the favorite for the post of head coach, as it is said that it has the backing of the captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli. However, the BCCI official denied the fact that Kohli’s preferences, in any form or form, would influence the appointment of India’s next head coach.
“Virat Kohli may have expressed his desire to have Ravi Shastri for the job, but it will be purely a decision of the CAC. We will not enhance Kohli’s desire,” the official said.happy wheels
