Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently riding high on the success of Judwaa 2 has given her nod for the official Hindi remake of 2016 American mystery drama The Girl On The Train. The Hollywood film was based on the 2015 bestseller of the same name by Paula Hawkins. She will be stepping into Emily Blunt‘s shoes in the remake.
The director Ribhu Dasgupta, who previously helmed the Amitabh Bachchan-Nawazuddin Siddique starrer Te3N, holds the official adaptation rights for the film and the book. He confirmed Jacqueline as his leading lady for this author-backed role.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, he said, “I have just finished the script. Jackie (Jacqueline) has come on board as the protagonist. While the novel had an ensemble cast, our film will revolve around her character. I have been looking forward to working with her and this seemed like a perfect project to collaborate. You get together to make a film when people think alike in many ways and when I had met her, I discovered we were on the same page”
The original movie is about how an alcoholic divorcee, played by very talented Blunt, used to get fascinated by a couple staying in a house near the railway track as she commutes back home. She is drawn to their lives especially when the wife goes missing, and the husband end up being the prime suspect.
A source close to the project revealed, “The film will be set in a small town but the makers are yet to figure whether they will be filming in India or abroad. Ribhu and his team will begin their recce soon and will start prepping up with Jacqueline by the year end.”
Jacqueline is busy shooting for Tarun Mansukhani’s Drive with Sushant Singh Rajput. She is also set to start shooting for the Salman Khan, Bobby Deol-starrer Race 3 next month.happy wheels
