Mulan Walt Disney Pictures Sets for Live-Action Adaptation!
Another shot live action in an animated film from Walt Disney Pictures is on the road today as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that there are plans for a new take big screen in Mulan!
Mulan, released by the studio in 1998, adapted the ancient Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, a warrior woman disguised as a man to take the place of her elderly father in the military.
Disney has enjoyed some success with live action versions of some of its animated classics. Currently in theaters, Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella has already grossed over $ 335 million worldwide. It was recently preceded by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (a quasi-sequel to the 1951 animated film) and Maleficent Robert Stromberg (a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty, 1959). Following the recent blockbuster Cinderella, Walt Disney Pictures has tapped as his next character Mulan animated Disney to remake in a live action film. Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek start writing the script, while Chris Bender and JC Pink occur.
Mulan, which debuted in the 1988 film of Disney animation, is one of the most iconic animated heroines of the company. In the original film, Mulan told the story of a girl who takes the place of his ailing father in ancient Chinese army. Posing a man in the army for men only, Mulan must save his country from the invading Huns.
Mulan continues the recent trend of adapting its classic cartoon in live-action films from Disney. So far, the studio has released a live-action version of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent (Cinderella prequel) and Cinderella. A live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson, hit theaters in March 2017.
