WIMBLEDON: The Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis cruised to the third round of women’s doubles event, handing him a 6-0 6-1 thrashing Japanese-Italian couple Kimiko Date-Krumm and Francesca Schiavone Wimbledon.
The duo of top seed, took only 45 minutes on the court 12 to advance to the next round on Friday.
The ruthless Indo-Swiss duo from the start and dominated the competition throughout, winning 56 of the 81 points played in the match, double faulting just twice and forcing their opponents in six unforced errors.
We are playing very well, so I was confident going into the match, “Hingis said after Friday’s game.
“I’ve met Kimiko and Francesca long and he knew he could be difficult, but we started well and kept up our level throughout the match.”
They defeated the unseeded opponents Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan and China Saisai Zheng 6-2, 6-2 in the first round on Thursday.
In the third round, Sania-Martina the winning couple in a match between New Zealand-English duo of Marina Erakovic-Heather Watson and the Spanish duo Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja will meet.
