Telangana offers to play host to WTA Open again
Telangana state government has offered to host the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Open once again in the city if there is a written proposal from the WTA. This is evidenced by Kalvakuntla Kavitha, MP, in the press conference, adorned with tennis legend Martina Navratilova, Telangana Brand Ambassador Sania Mirza and young talent Karman Kaur Wednesday.
“From the government side, we’re ready to host the event, always gives us a detailed proposal,” was the response of Ms. Kavitha a general response WTA Championships Director Melissa Pino. “We have you been open to many WTA events worldwide. They involve a lot of logistics and enormous expense” was his response. And Ms. Kavitha response was quick, evoking huge smiles on the faces of Sania and Navratilova.
“The government of Telangana is ready to promote the sport. We always feel that Sania, being the brand ambassador of our newly formed state, which is already a major factor in promoting the sport. And his triumph at Wimbledon should inspire many more to play sports. It is time we move away from the cricket fever and give equal weight to other sports, “said Ms. Kavitha.
“We are aware that Sania won her first WTA title here over 12 years ago. If given the opportunity, we will host it in a big way,” he said.
