Want Debate Andhra Pradesh issue of special status: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today said he wanted to hold a debate on granting the status of special category state affairs and others mentioned in the AP Reorganization Act, days after the prime minister Narendra Modi met, in New Delhi in this regard.
“I want the discussion of (the grant) special status to AP and other issues mentioned in the AP Reorganization Act, besides corruption tenure YS Rajasekhar Reddy. I would put all the issues before the people,” Mr. Naidu.
Also he appealed to the opposition parties not to “politicize” the issue of granting special status to Andhra Pradesh and join him in developing the state, which divides the past year to create Telangana.
Mr. Naidu also asked people not to resort to the extreme step like committing suicide for the cause of the special condition.
His appeal came a day after a 55 years physically- challenged man allegedly committed suicide in Nellore district on the subject.
“I appealed to the Prime Minister to take responsibility for the development kept pace with other neighboring developed states Andhra. I requested PM to implement all subjects incorporated in the Reorganization Act AP,” the CM said to interact with the press Vijayawada.
Mr. Naidu met Mr. Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday amid escalating pressure from opposition parties demand the granting of a special status as promised during the year division of the State last.
He said he had called on the EU governments to grant additional incentive for industries in the state and corporations will not be able to create new units in the absence of incentives.
“I also requested the Prime Minister to allocate more funds for irrigation project Polavaram to accelerate its completion. The Center is committed to reimburse expenses from time to time,” added Mr. Naidu.
In a related development, Union Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu today urged the NITI Aayog to “expeditiously” consider the issue of granting special status of Andhra Pradesh and the State aid package.
The stand of the Centre on the subject is that a final opinion on the granting of special status reconciliation would take the recommendation of the Finance Committee.
