Telangana forms committee to oversee making of temple jewellery

The Telangana government on Thursday constituted a committee to oversee the making of gold ornaments for various temples as a thanksgiving gesture to Gods for fulfilling the dream of separate statehood for Telangana.

According to the GO, the committee will be headed by the advisor to the state government K V Ramana Chary, assistant commissioner of endowments D Rajeshwar, and jewellery verification officer of endowments, K Bhaskar.

It may be recalled the Telangana state cabinet on January 30, 2015, approved offerings to various temples in the united AP. The endowments department also issued GOs in February this year (Nos 22 and 23) sanctioning Rs 5.59 crore for the gold orna ments to be prepared for various temples.

Of the total Rs 5.59 crore, about Rs 5 crore was sanctioned to offer gold Mula Varna Kamalamu Namuna Bangaru Saligrama Haram and 5 petala kante to Sri Venkateshwara Swamy at Tirumala. Similarly another Rs 59 lakh was sanctioned for a two-kg golden crown for goddess Bhadrakali at Bhadrakali Ammavaru temple in Warangal, 1,015 gms nose stud for goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru at Tiruchannur, another nose stud for goddess Kanaka Durga at Kanadurga temple at Vijayawada and a golden moustache to the deity at the Kuravi Veerabhadra Swamy temple in Warangal district.

The work has not begun in the past 10 months and this paper raised the issue in these columns. The state government has issued orders now to supervise the work.
