It was a major disappointment to Telangana State. Though the state government put all efforts to maintain cleanliness in all urban areas in the state, not a single city or town secured rank in top ten clean cities in the country.
The union government had announced clean cities under Swatch Sarvekhshan programme launched by Prime minister Narendra Modi in 2014. In the list, Hyderabad occupied 22nd rank, followed by Warangal (28), Suryapeta (30) and Siddipet was ranked 45.
Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been ranked number one clean city and Bhopal got second position in the country. As per the report, two cities from Andhra Pradesh secured ranks in the top ten clean cities. Visakhapatnam was adjudged third and temple town Tirupati got ninth rank under the Swatch Sarvekhan.
Vijayawada got 19th position followed by Tadipatri (31), Narasaraipet ( 40), Kakinada ( 43) and Rajahmundry maintained 46 rank among the top 50 clean cities in the country. Gonda town in Uttar Pradesh has got the last 434 rank.
