Allu Arjun hardly faced technical problems in recent years. This time, he teamed up with Harish Shankar and Dil Raju to deliver the commercial potboiler ‘DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham’. Has the combination worked?
Synopsis:
Duvvada Jagannadham alias DJ (Allu Arjun) is a young Brahmin who can not tolerate injustice since childhood. In addition to caring for the restoration business, it fights antisocial elements with the help of a Top Cop (Murali Sharma). Just as DJ was running his plans in disguise, a huge conspiracy is exposed and someone close to him pays the price for it. DJ intervenes to end the atrocities of Royyala Naidu (Rao Ramesh) who is behind the scam. However, Royyala Naidu points to the DJ Family as they learn about their mission. How did DJ made the difficult task forms remainder of the story!
Performances:
Allu Arjun’s performance as Juventud Brahmin is so common when compared to Chiru’s ‘Mugguru Monagallu’ or NTR’s ‘Adhurs’. Looks-wise, Bunny looks amazing on both roles. He is exceptional in Dances & Fights.
The Glamor of Pooja Hegde has risen quite well. The youth goes crazy seeing their sexy avatar. She, however, has very little room for performance.
Rao Ramesh entertains with his delivery of dialogue, mannerisms and body language. But, it must be said that he did not seem fit for the role of main villain. Murali Sharma is fine. Vennela Kishore was underused. Posani, Tanikella and Chandramohan played their characters according to the requirement.

Devi Sri Prasad featured a chartbuster album that could attract the audience of youth and mass. Camera Work by Ayananka Bose is quite impressive. The production values of Sri Venkateswara Creations are great. Story-Screenplay Routine was costly for ‘DJ’. Harish Shankar once again failed to use the golden opportunity he received after a hit as ‘Gabbar Singh’. The only saving grace is the Dialogues written by him. Overall, ‘DJ’ lacked entertainment one expected of a crazy combo.
Analysis:
‘DJ’ Posters & Promos gave an impression that he could be a paisa-vasool artist even though the story and script appear routine. Sadly, the entertainment ratio is not up to the mark. The creators could have thought of overcoming the defects with the role of Allu Arjun’s Brahmin. Sadly, this character did not live up to expectations and hardly creates a lasting impression. Even the trail of love between the lead pair does not look promising.
While the first half of ‘DJ’ is decent, the second half is pretty boring to say the least. Weaving a story around Agri-Gold Scam could make the subject look contemporary. Other than that there is no frills in this movie.
The scenes of Allu Arjun’s childhood seem artificial. The scenes of Protagonist who took the law in their hands in the presence of a Sincere Cop to raise heroism did not seem convincing. The dose of glamor of Pooja Hegde will be enjoyed. Rao Ramesh playing the Main Antagonist did not work in favor of the film. Even the character chart did not hold well.
The most disappointing aspect is the Climax. Yes, Harish Shankar’s claims in promotional interviews have come true. The audience did not expect such a surprising Climax, which is excessive at all. Having a runtime of more than 2 and a half hours is another less. Post the screening, Audience express the doubt of how Bunny who is very choosey picked up a topic.
Bottom Line: DJ – What message do you want to convey with a routine cinema?
