Smartron srt.phone: Not registering enough

phoneSports personalities have a great influence on the masses. No wonder then, big brands turn to these stars to promote their products. Sometimes however, these personalities grow so popular that they become a brand. That is the case with Sachin Tendulkar, the guy who is often referred to as the greatest cricket player of his time. It is the reason why the national brand Smartron caught the attention of everyone. Sachin is not only a brand ambassador for Smartron but also a key investor. The result of this association is srt.phone (which is a nod to Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar). However, for a fan of Sachin, does this phone add any real value?

Construction and Aesthetics

For an economical smartphone, the srt.phone has a good fit and finish. It is also quite robust and looks like it can survive a strange fall. But then, thanks to brands such as Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei, we are accustomed to seeing well-constructed phones in the sub 10k category. In fact, the srt.phone loses the premium feel due to its plastic back.

Unlike most unibody phones these days, the srt.phone comes with a removable back panel. Interestingly, you only have access to nano SIM slots. The battery is not removable by the user.

The placement of the fingerprint sensor is quite good. In addition, the matte gray finish reduces the visibility of fingerprint stains. However, we want the power button to have a better placement. Similarly, volume balancing is placed unusually close to the center rather than the edge of the phone. It’s a small inconvenience until you get used to it.

If you expect some sort of brand for Sachin, you’re in for a disappointment. The signature or image of the master blaster is engraved on the back of the phone. Instead, you are supposed to buy more Sachin Tendulkar Signature back covers.

screen

The srt.phone comes with IPS Full HD 5.5 inch screen (on panel change). Thanks to the pixel density of 401ppi, the screen is clear. Color reproduction is good and there is not much color change at extreme angles. The screen is bright with decent outdoor readability.

software

The srt.phone phone comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1. Smartron promises Android Or update soon. The national brand has not made many changes to the action of Android, which is a good thing. The app drawer has a useful search bar that helps you find applications with ease. Google Now is properly covered. You will also get the split screen function, which is activated by pressing the button for recent applications.

The phone does not come with much bloatware unless you have no use for the Microsoft productivity suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Smartronic services are discrete and remain hidden in the application drawer unless you decide to use it.

Performance

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset, the phone performs well. Things like the scrolling menu and the transitions are particularly smooth. The decision of the company to go with 4 GB of RAM is worth it, since we do not notice problems during the multitasking.

In terms of game, the srt.phone handles games that require many resources, like Need For Speed No Limits, Asphalt and Modern Combat. There is not much delay to complain, but the charging time is quite long.

Media

The srt.phone comes in 32 GB and 64 GB variants. The microSD card slot is missing however, which is quite a bummer. The built-in phone speaker is quite weak and easily gets drowned by the ambient sounds. Well, this is an aspect he shares with Sachin for sure.

The sound output is quite good. Pair it with decent headphones, and the phone does not disappoint. There is nothing to complain about in terms of video playback. Once you install MXPlayer, there are almost no videos this phone can handle.

Camera

The 13 megapixel rear camera is only average. While its performance is decent in broad daylight, it falters in low light conditions. This produces blurry and diffuse images. Manual mode does not elevate things.
