J & K: 2 civilians killed, several injured while Pak violates cease-fire in Poonch

j&k 2Jammu: Two civilians were killed and others injured on Saturday when the Pakistani army violated the ceasefire along the LoC in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities said.

The two civilians killed were husband and wife and children wounded, among others, are the dead couple.

The Pakistani army launched unprovoked and indiscriminate shots of small arms, automatic weapons and mortars at Indian Army posts along the Poonch Line of Control starting at 6:30 p.m., a spokesman for the defending. Indian troops retaliated effectively, he added.

Pakistani troops rained mortar bombs and resorted to heavy gunfire, also targeting civilian villages, a police official said.

“So far two civilians have died in Pakistani bombing in the village of Khadi Karmara along the LoC,” he said, adding that some other people were injured.

There were 23 incidents of cease-fire violations, an attack by Pakistan’s special forces team and two infiltration bids in June in which four people, including three jawans, were killed and 12 wounded.

On 29 June, two Indian Army jawans were wounded when Pakistani troops fired small arms and bombed mortars at outposts and civil areas along the LoC in the Poonch district.

Even at Eid-ul Fitr on June 26, the Pakistani army fired small arms and automatic weapons and bombed mortars along the LoC in Rajouri’s Bhimbhir Gali sector.

On June 22, a team of Pakistani special forces sneaked through the LoC in Poonch under heavy fire cover and killed two jawans – 34-year-old Naik Jadhav Sandip of Aurangabad and 24-year-old Sepoy Mane Savan Balku of Kolhapur.

A Pakistani soldier was also killed. The Pakistan Border Action Team is made up of special forces personnel from its army and terrorists.
