Andhra Pradesh: Plantation unit to increase green cover
Rajahmundry: In an attempt to raise oxygen levels and improve green cover in the city, around 1,000 trees should be planted alongside major highways and crossroads of young people associated with the Rajahmundry Rising voluntary agency under the “Green Fix” . They expressed concern about the construction of multi-storey buildings throughout the city by cutting trees and cleaning green parcels in various parts of the city as part of the urbanization. As a result, the level of air pollution has been increasing as vehicular traffic and industrial units continue to aggregate.
Young volunteers intend to provide their pocket money to buy adult trees between 2.5 and 3 years old from Kadiam nurseries and plant them. Team members have divided the city into 50 zones based on certain criteria such as lack of adequate green cover, important roads and splices, feasibility to assume planting and their survival. Areas where trees are to be planted include J.N. Road, A.V. Appa Rao Road, RTC Complex Road, Paper Mill Road, Diwan Cheruvu, Kambhala Tank, ILTD Junction, Koruk-wave Road and others.
The team has selected several species of trees that are non-poisonous and give colorful flowers and shade and which can survive in temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius as the city witnessed high temperatures during the summer sometimes. On average, each tree costs between Rs 900 and Rs 2,500 depending on the variety, size and age in wholesale trade in nurseries. Civic administration has ensured provide a drilling machine to dig trenches to plant trees. The average height of each tree will be 20 feet.
The planting location has been made to ensure that tall trees do not touch the transmission lines of energy for the safety of people and livestock. The team has planted 73 trees before and wants to plant the rest of the 1,000 target trees. Work on land for planting such as spotting, variety selection, fund-raising and seeking help from civil authorities to save your drilling machine has already been completed.
Maturi Siddartha, leader of the Rajahmundry Rising team, said: “We want to improve the green cover in the city by taking plantation of grown trees, as their survival is high and require less maintenance and prevention than the sowing of young trees. That the green roof improves oxygen levels in the atmosphere and gives a good atmosphere to local residents and visitors. “
