Police officers said that more than 30 men from the 24 Rashtriya Army Rifles stormed the Gund police station and, after beating police, looted the premises.

“They were in civilians and apparently were outraged to be stopped by the police to go to Ganderbal de Baltal beyond the time of court,” said a police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir said Saturday afternoon that its director general, Shesh Paul Vaid, had been assured by the commander of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (15) that action would be taken against the soldiers involved in the attack. incident.

Baltal, 93.5 km from Srinagar, is the base camp of the shortest route to Amarnath.

Army men were returning from Amarnath but were traveling beyond court time according to which all Srinagar-bound vehicles have to cross Sonamarg which is about 80 km north of Srinagar and 13.5 km from Baltal by 2 pm.

The soldiers allegedly beat the police checkpoint at Sonamarg, which had prevented them from moving forward. Later, after being joined by their colleagues, some of them in uniforms, they went to the nearby Gund and “attacked” the police station, sources said adding that a FIR about the incident has been registered at the police station.

Two of the policemen were seriously injured, sources said. Six policemen, including a deputy inspector, are being treated at a local hospital.

A statement issued by the police, giving details of the incident, said during the middle night of 21 and 22 July a group of 30 staff members of the 24 RRs in civilians traveling in four vehicles escaped from the point Naka established by Sonamarg Police Station in Poney Stand.

However, Army men in civilians without showing any identification descended from the vehicles and began beating the service officer and other officials, resulting in injuries of said ASI.

A FIR (No.18 / 2017) has been registered under various sections of the Ranbir Criminal Code including 147, 148, 307, 323, 332, 353, 427 and 120-B RPC has been searched, police said.

Army officials said they are finding out the details of the incident and will only be able to comment “when we know exactly what happened.”
