Cabinet approves new metro policy for network expansion between cities

cabinetNew Delhi: The government approved a new metro rail policy on Wednesday to expand the metro network in several cities across the country, officials said.

The new policy was approved by the Cabinet of the Union chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The metro policy will talk about normalization of standards and development of an acquisition mechanism for the implementation of projects. He will also talk about financing and financing, officials said.

At present, metro projects with a total length of more than 350 km are operative in eight cities – Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Gurugram.

Metro projects are also underway in Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Pune and Lucknow.
