Glasgow: Indian races Saina Nehwal and B Sai Praneeth reached the fourth final of the BWF 2017 Badminton World Championships in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Saina took little more than half an hour to beat Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland in the games 21-11, 21-12. Like PV Sindhu, Saina had also received the first round goodbye.
B Sai Praneeth came from a game to beat Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from Indonesia 14-21, 21-18, 21-19 to enter the pre-quarter final which lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Saina was in complete control of the game from the beginning. The 12th seed Indian comfortably took the first game 21-11. In the second game, Saina continued her dominance over her opponent to open four points advantage, but Sabrina struggled to narrow the gap to two points. Saina, however, brought her experience into play to balance the momentum of the game in her favor to close the game at 21-12.
In male singles, Praneeth pitted against Indonesia, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. The non-seeded Indonesian won the first game 21-14, but the 15th seed Indian fought in the second game, equalized point by point to keep pace with his opponent and close the game at 21-18. The third game was once again a very tight affair as Praneeth ran to the four-point lead, but Ginting struggled to tie the game in 6 each.
The Indonesian came back strong and led the final game 18-13, but Praneeth struggled again to tie the game at 18-18 each. The Indian boxer kept his nerve under pressure to win the final game 21-19 and close the match. Praneeth will now face the winner between Marc Zwiebler of Germany and the sixth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.
