Chennai: Dravida’s president Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MK Stalin said on Wednesday that Governor Vidyasagar Rao “did not fulfill his duties” and stated this as the reason to plan to meet with President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday.
Stalin, speaking to the press, said that Governor Rao is giving in to politics, adding, “We have been saying from the beginning that the Union Government is behind everything that happens in Tamil Nadu.”
This comes after Governor Rao told opposition leaders that he can not intervene in the affair of all Indian rebels Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) as the 19 MLAs “continue to be party members”.
In a joint appeal, four opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have urged Governor Vidyasagar Rao to immediately call the Assembly and order Edappadi K Palanisamy to seek a vote of confidence and resolve “the crisis in the ruling party” after 19 MLA rebels withdrew support to the Chief Minister.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, opposition leader Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Thol. Thirumavalavan said, “In response to our demand (call vote of confidence), Governor Rao said he can not act as rival MLAs are still in AIADMK.”
Speaking of the meeting with the President, Stalin said: “The President has agreed to meet us at 11 am tomorrow and we will meet him with our allies.”
Although on Wednesday, TTV Dhinakaran said that both Prime Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy and Deputy Minister O Panneerselvam are spreading “false information about us for what they have been meeting with Union ministers.”
Stalin also said that if no action is taken against the Tamil Nadu government, even after meeting with the president, they will “consider legal action.”
On Monday, the AIADMK passed four resolutions, according to which the decisions taken by the deputy secretary general of the TTV party Dhinakaran would have no legal impact since his appointment was announced null on August 10.
The four resolutions are:
– The decisions made by Dhinakaran will have no legal impact since his appointment was announced null on August 10
– Party spokesmen – Namadhu MGR magazine and Jaya TV – will be legally recovered
– Convene a meeting of the General Council (date not finalized)
– Strengthen the party to be able to run for another 100 years and celebrate the centenary of the MGR to a large extent
Resolutions were made at the AIADMK headquarters.
The AIADMK meeting in Royapettah in Chennai was held on Wednesday. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy and O Panneerselvam were present at the meeting.
The meeting discussed the issue of 19 (supposedly 22) lawmakers by giving a letter to Governor C Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing his support to the senior minister Palanisamy and wishing a new prime minister.
Originally, the AIADMK was divided into two factions – one led by former Prime Minister O Panneerselvam and the other by Sasikala.
The Electoral Commission (EC) had only recognized these two factions at the time of RK Nagar constituency. However, it was postponed due to the game of money – bribing voters.
Later, a third faction emerged under Palanisamy as it developed differences with the Sasikala-Dhinakaran faction.
On August 26, Dhinakaran said that all MLA supporters will teach a lesson to those who want to evict Sasikala.
In recent days, many AIADMK MLAs have pledged support to Dhinakaran by bringing the strength of their camp to 21.
The anger at the EPS by its merger with the Panneerselvam camp was evident as the MLA publicly reprimanded the Chief Minister for his decision.
While the DMK and Congress have been urging Governor Tamil Nadu to lead Palanisamy to demonstrate his majority in the House, no decision has yet been made on it.
Governor C Vidyasagar Rao is expected to return to Tamil Nadu shortly, after which he is likely to ask Palanisamy to take a floor test.
This would be the second time in six months that the State Assembly will witness a floor test, if it happens.
