Statue Of Unity’ To Be Ready For Inauguration On October 31: Government

VADODARA: The BJP government in Gujarat is planning to introduce the 18-meter tall ‘Statue of Unity’, devoted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on October 31, the birth commemoration of India’s first home clergyman.

The transcending landmark, being raised at Sadhu Bet, 3.32 km from the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada stream at Kevadia, around 100-km from here, will be prepared for introduction on October 31, Gujarat Chief Secretary JN Singh said.

Mr Singh yesterday went to the undertaking site to check out the continuous work.

“I went to the site to check out the task and guarantee its convenient execution. The ‘Statue of Unity’ will be prepared for introduction on October 31,” he told PTI.

The establishment stone of the landmark, a fantasy venture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was laid on October 31, 2013, corresponding with the 138th birth commemoration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, famously known as the ‘Iron Man of India’.

PM Modi, who was then Gujarat Chief Minister, established the framework stone of the almost Rs. 3,000-crore venture, being based on an open private association (PPP) premise by designing mammoth L&T under the supervision of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL).
