Rajnath Flies In Tejas, Becomes First Defence Minister To Fly In Light Combat Aircraft

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh flew in Tejas on Thursday for a fully-fledged light aircraft carrier. Rajnath, sitting behind the pilot of a Tejas fighter wearing a jee-suit, helmet and an oxygen mask. Rajnath is accompanied by Air Vice Marshal and National Flight Test Center project director N Tiwari. The Defense Minister arrived in Bangalore on Wednesday morning for a two-day visit.

The Tejas fighters are reported to have been included in the Indian Air Force sales. The Navy version of the aircraft completed a key test last week. It demonstrated its ability to land safely on the aircraft carrier by successfully operating the Arrested Landing Code. With this, India joins a handful of countries capable of building such a warship. The light fighter Tejas was built with full indigenous knowledge. HAL has initially ordered 40 warplanes, and another 83 aircraft have been approved in 2018. It is worth Rs 50 thousand crores.

In February 2019, the Tejas plane joined the Air Force. After the successful completion of all tests, the aircraft is issued a clearance certificate. Star Shuttler Peevy Sindhu Tejas has been entertained. Tejas has many specialties, including refueling while in the air. The aircraft is named after former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee Tejas. Tejas means chasm and light in Sanskrit.
