The first phase of the expedition will begin at Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, in honor of the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh founder Guru Nanak. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was invited by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Manmohan accepted the invitation and expressed his willingness to go to Pakistan. The former prime minister has decided to join the first installment of the Kartarpur Gurdwara on November 9, after Guru Nanak’s victory on November 12. Manmohan will also travel from Kartapur to Sultanpur Lodhi.
Pakistani External Affairs Minister Qureshi recently said that Manmohan would be invited to the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor. The Kartarpur corridor connects the Darbar Sahib to the Gurunanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Situated on the banks of the River Ravi, this Gurudwara is considered a holy place by the Sikhs. The Guru Granth Saheb described Guru Nanak as having spent the last 18 years of his life here. This Gurudwara is so important.
With the division of the country into the territory of Pakistan, the Sikhs in India are facing difficulties to reach the field. To get there you must obtain a visa. To overcome these, the Indo-Pakists came to an understanding of the construction of the Kartarpur corridor. Once the corridor is opened, one can travel directly from Dehradabad Nanak to Pak territory from the Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Currently only 5,000 pilgrims are allowed per day. The Foreign Ministry said that the opening of the same corridor could allow up to 10,000 people per day.
