The Supreme Court on Saturday issued a historic ruling on the Ayodhya dispute. The Supreme Court appointed the arbitration committee at the earliest, but there was no solution. This is the first time in 30 years that such measures have been taken to solve the problem. Moreover, eight Prime Ministers have failed to try to resolve the dispute. For the first time in 1986, the Kanchi Patriarch Shankaracharya and All India Muslim Personal Law Board President Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadvi (Ali Mian) met for the first time to discuss the Ayodhya dispute.
Ali Mian told Kanchi Sankaracharya that they are ready to discuss the matter in court. He said that the members of the AIIMPLB had agreed to this, but Shankaracharya backed down saying he could not take the initiative due to pressure from various groups. In 1990, Prime Minister Veepee Singh, with the help of some officials, launched an effort to resolve the dispute for the first time without court involvement.
But he was forced to step down as Prime Minister while the process was in bloom. Hindu and Muslim communities have met several times under the auspices of controversial spiritual guru Chandraswamy as part of efforts to resolve the issue outside the court. A high-level committee headed by Subodh Kant Sahai has been appointed by the Union Home Ministry. UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, Maharashtra CM Sharad Pawar and Rajasthan CM Bhairam Singh Shekhawat have been appointed as members. Parliament was dissolved before this committee took any decision.
Later, in 1992, Prime Minister Peevi Narasimha Rao also tried his best. Even then Chandraswamy intervened. The VHP has called for the demolition of the Babri Masjid as negotiations are in full effect. The negotiations have ended meaningfully. For over a decade, no steps have been taken to resolve the Ayodhya dispute. Back in 2000-02 Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee reopened the talks. The Prime Minister presided over the setting up of the Ayodhya cell and invited both parties to negotiate. Senior IPS officer Kunal Kishore has been appointed as the mediator for the VHP and All India Muslim Personal Law Boards. But these were also not true.
Once again in 2002-03, the new head of the Kanchikamakoti Sankaracharya was again approached by the Muslim Law Board. At their request, Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulma of Lucknow visited with some proposals. However, the AIMPLB rejected some of his proposals. After the successive UPA government, Prime Minister Manmohan did not negotiate. The Allahabad High Court ruled in 2010 over the Ayodhya dispute. It then reached the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has ordered the recent acquisition of the controversial 2.77-acre plot of land by Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas. The Waqf board also said that 5 acres of land should be allotted in Ayodhya. This is an issue that has not been resolved in the past Prime Minister’s term with the Supreme Court ruling of Modi. It was his success that got him under Prime Minister Modi.
