Against Harassment ‘Team SHE’ to operate throughout Telangana Now
HYDERABAD: Police said Wednesday that Telangana wick ‘IT equipment’, to keep an eye on EVE-teasers start operating in all districts of the state from Wednesday, following the encouraging results in Hyderabad.
The officers ‘IT Equipment’, which are in plainclothes were deployed near schools and other public places.
“The initiative has been successful in the limits of Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. It will expand statewide starting today (Wednesday),” Deputy Police Director General said (CID) Satyanarain.
Hyderabad police have launched ‘IT equipment’ to kill Eve-teasers and stalkers last October.
“We believe these teams have created a good impact on slowing Hyderabad and Cyberabad eve-teasing and bullying. There are plenty of deterrence. Women have decided to complain,” Satyanarain said, speaking to reporters.
Swathi Lakra, a police officer senior, said, “Hyderabad police have been trained these teams at district level.”
Asked about self-defense training for girls, said police officer of high rank, “Yes, it’s happening. We are encouraging schools to start training classes and many colleges have kept those classes.”
About 300 cases have been recorded by IT equipment in Hyderabad and Cyberabad. No less than 33 offenders were sentenced to prison by the courts, while others were fined, said Ms. Lakra.
Juvenile offenders are assessed and forced to participate in the campaign against eve teasing.
A unique team of IT is a man or woman sergeant, a policeman policewoman and three police officers who carry hidden cameras for video recording.
Encouraged by the impact of equipment introduced in the capital to catch people who sexually harass women in public places, police Telangana state has decided to start similar teams in all districts of the state.
SHE teams were established in the districts by the respective Superintendents of Police and started working, said Department of Investigation Crime additional DGP Satyanaraian at a press conference Wednesday. Now, police personnel selected for SHE teams were trained in Hyderabad in two spells. Initially, each district will have two teams SHE. A campaign against sexual harassment of women in public places was also planned in all police districts. “We are contemplating invoking Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) of the Indian Penal Code against those captured by SHE teams,” said the additional DGP.
SHE teams-each comprise a sergeant and three fifty-seven lead constables- hidden cameras to record the actions of people make, harassment of women. They would be captured and based on video sequences, legal action will be initiated.
