Hyderabad: The TRS may have extended support for the NDA on issues such as banning of notes, GST and election of the president and vice-president, but the BJP says it would like to play the role of an effective opposition and emerge as an alternative to Decision party.
The state party unit will hold its executive meeting in Warangal starting tomorrow to determine its future course of action, said Telangana BJP President K Laxman.
“We welcome TRS’s decision to support demonetization, the GST, the presidential candidate and the vice presidential candidate, and it has nothing to do with politics,” Laxman told PTI.
“As a political party, we are doing our job, the Telangana people had high hopes for the TRS government, but the government can not keep the promises made to the common man,” he said.
“As an opposition party, we are trying to do everything we can to reach people,” he said.
The BJP is interested in emerging as an alternative to the governing party in Telangana as “people have lost faith in Congress” (the main opposition in the state) because of its “corruption and hereditary politics,” Laxman said.
“People also expect the ‘Modi type’ of acting in Telangana,” said the BJP leader.
“A transparent and accountable government in Telangana also witnessed not only the level of Delhi, but also in governments governed by the BJP also witnessed governments free of corruption and transparent governments.” People also want this kind of government in Telangana.
The BJP’s central leadership has identified Telangana as one of the states where it can substantially increase its strength.
The party chief, Amit Shah, had traveled through the state in May of this year. It is scheduled to visit the state again in September.
Laxman said the party’s state unit would hold its two-day executive meeting in Warangal from tomorrow to determine its future course of action.
The state executive meeting would be attended by Union Ministers Hansraj Ahir, Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP General Secretaries Ram Madhav and Muralidhar Rao, as well as several other leaders.
Laxman has already announced an action program for the coming months to galvanize party leaders and workers by holding executive meetings of party districts and mandal-level units, followed by upheavals against the TRS government in different Themes.
“We are in Warangal for two days for the state executive meeting, we are going to analyze our future programs, we will strengthen our organization, we will take agitation programs on farmers, young unemployed,” he said.
