Congress MPs demanded special status for Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: Congress members Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday joined hands in the Rajya Sabha to demand special status for Andhra Pradesh and a response from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in fulfilling the promises made in the AP reorganizatioin Law .
Rajya Sabha waving banners that read “Implement special status” for AP, JD Seelam raised the issue of the death of a Congress activist, on Monday he succumbed to burns suffered after the self-immolation in support of the application, at a party meeting in Tirupati on Saturday.

“He was cremated yesterday. The Andhra Pradesh stirring. Different government ministers are saying different things about it. This government, the prime minister should say categorically (what is done).
“We want the provisions of the Bill of AP and content of the proceedings of the House on the issue to be implemented. We do not want silence (the government),” said Seelam.
V Hanumantha Rao, another deputy of the Congress Telangana region, also joined the freight forwarding Narendra Modi government did not fulfill the promises he has made.
“Government of the day should honor the statement made in the House. I want to know if the promises made by the Prime Minister are valid or not, whether the promises made by the government in the House are valid or not,” he said.
The Congress protest on the issue in Rajya Sabha came a day after YSR Congress, headed by its president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, held a dharna at Jantar Mantar here demanding granting special status to AP.

The IPC has now asked statewide bandh in support of the demand, which is being supported by the state legislature. The promise of a special status Seemandhra (new Andhra Pradesh) was made in Parliament during the bifurcation state last year.
With opposition parties intensified attack on him on the status of special category of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu N Chief Minister said yesterday that he had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue and other promises made to the state during the branch last year.
