Cricket player Harmanpreet Kaur, who came to an impressive 171, not in the recent Women’s Cricket World Cup that propelled India to the final, has been promoted as a Special Service Officer (OSD) on the Western Railway.
Kaur was serving as the chief superintendent of Western Railroad (WR) office in Mumbai since May 2014 and has now been promoted as OSD-Sports.
“In recognition of her outstanding performance at the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup, the railway ministry has granted Kaur an out-of-turn promotion in Group B classified as Special Duty Officer (OSD).” WR.
He was given the promotion on Sept. 7, he said, adding that whenever rail players excel internationally, they are congratulated and promoted.
General Manager of Western Railway A.K. Gupta and Deputy General Manager Raj Kumar Lal, who is also chairman of the West Railroad Sports Association, congratulated Kaur for his achievements and for his promotion.
“She (Kaur) is an inspiration to all sports people, especially women,” said Gupta.
Kaur, with his great batting skills, made his Indian debut against Pakistan in 2009.
The 28-year-old right-handed batter batted an unbeaten 171 of just 115 balls in the semi-final to eliminate the then reigning Australian champion of the tournament that was played in England in July. However, India lost the finals to England.
After his excellent performance, then-minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu announced on July 27 a cash reward of ₹ 1.30 crore for 10 members of Indian women’s cricket team, an employee of Indian Railways.
He also announced promotions for all members of the team, including for captain Mithali Raj to a ranked official rank.
