Hyderabad: Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday issued notices to four Andhra Pradesh ministers, asking them why they could not be disqualified for deserting the ruling TDP of the YSR Congress Party.
A division court of the current Supreme Judge Ramesh Ranganthan and Judge T Rajini, upon hearing a written petition submitted by the journalist T Shivaprasad Reddy, issued the notifications to the chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh, as well as the ministers N Amarnath Reddy, RS Krishna Ranga Rao, Bhuma Akhila Priya and C Adi Narayana Reddy.
They were all elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly on the ticket of the YSR Congress Party, but joined the Telugu Desam Party’s N Chandrababu Naidu party in April of this year and subsequently became ministers.
Challenging his induction into the Cabinet, the petitioner asserted that this action by the Andhra government was highly arbitrary, illegal and without any application of the mind or authority of the law and was a violation of Article 164 (1B) of the Constitution and related rules .
The petitioner asked the High Court to prevent the four of them from performing any function as ministers, pending the elimination of their allegation.
The HC suspended the case for four weeks.
