Three people were killed and over 20 injured when an improvised explosive device exploded in a crowded market in the heart of the city of Imphal. Two of the three dead were not Manipuris but police have yet to determine their identities and states that belonged.
The bomb was placed in a tea stall in the Market Temporary Khairamband Keithel, a market run exclusively by women in Imphal. The tea stall is located in a part of the market that sells chicken. The market is also close to the main arterial road flyover BT – Imphal in Manipur and the single overpass.
The area is one of the most congested city of Imphal and sees a large number of buyers daily. Indeed a large number of migrant workers from other states, especially Bihar, not only work in the area, but also live in congested dharamshalas created for them.
