In view of increasing usage of power in domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao forecast an additional demand for 3,500 MW power in the State from next fiscal.
The government already decided to supply 24-hour power to farming sector from March and the lift irrigation projects are nearing completion. Besides, mushrooming industries under the TS-iPASS policy would lead to huge power demand from 2018, the Chief Minister said while handing over a cheque for Rs 417 crore to BHEL which has taken up the establishment of an ultra-mega thermal power project with 4,000 MW installed capacity in Damaracharla at the cost of Rs 20,370 crore , at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday.Chandrashekar Rao instructed the BHEL management and TSGENCO to complete the project in three years so that the government would meet power the growing energy demand in the State.
The upcoming Metro Rail in Hyderabad and Mission Bhagiratha would also require huge amount of power, the Chief Minister said and instructed the officials to maintain transparency in the execution of works at every stage. He also directed the officials to execute works simultaneously in all five units at Yadadri project.
TSTransco Chairman and Managing Director Prabhakar Rao told the Chief Minister that the works at the thermal plant with 800 MW installed capacity in Kothagudem would be completed in two or three months and the Manuguru project would be commissioned next year. He said land acquisition was also completed and all the required permissions including environmental clearances were also sought for the upcoming projects.
