Mumbai: BJP leader Ravindra Bawanthade was arrested Wednesday, about a week after a video of him kissing a woman on a bus in Maharashtra became viral.
According to a report on NDTV, Bawanthade was arrested on charges of rape. The woman in the video had accused the BJP leader of raping her on the bus.
The leader, Ravindra Bavanthade of the Gadchiroli district, was caught in the CCTV footage of a private bus while kissing a woman. Later, the woman had approached the Gadichiroli police accusing Bavanthade of raping her.
On June 27, the accused traveled from Nagpur to Nagbhid on a private bus with the aforementioned woman, where he was caught in the footage of CCTV while kissing her. The CCTV video footage later became viral in the messaging application, WhatsApp, after which, the woman approached the police station and filed a complaint against Bavanthade.
The woman has alleged that Bavanthade had assured him that he would marry her and also promised her a job before establishing a relationship with her. The defendant has escaped since the complaint was filed against him and Gidchiroli police officers are looking for him.
