A military flight from Myanmar disappeared on Wednesday afternoon. The plane lost contact with Air Traffic Control 29 minutes after taking off from the coastal city of Myeik. The plane was flying at an altitude of 18,000 feet at that point in time.
9 navy ships and 3 aircraft had been used for the search operation. The remains of the plane were found in the Andaman Sea. Up to 10 bodies, life jackets and luggage were found Thursday morning. If everyone on board died, this would be one of the worst disasters in Myanmar’s aviation.
Up to 122 people were aboard this ill-fated Shaanxi Y8-200F Chinese plane. While 108 of them were passengers, the number of crew members was 14. In total, 58 civilian adults and 15 children were on the plane apart from military personnel.
Aviation officials say, The weather was normal during takeoff. Anything like a thunderstorm could have occurred in the air as the plane is flying at a high altitude.
