Kolkata: Former Calcutta Supreme Court Judge CS Karnan was taken to hospital on Wednesday after he complained of chest pain and was returned to the presidential prison when doctors found nothing “alarming.”
Earlier in the day, Karnan flew from Chennai after he was found hiding in Coimbatore by a West Bengal CID team who arrested him.
“He was transferred to SSKM state hospital from the correctional presidency, where he was lodged, after he complained of chest pain at night.
ECG rounds and other tests to determine if you had any problems, “said a CID police officer.
“Nothing unusual was found on his medical examinations and he was therefore sent back to the correctional home,” the officer said.
Karnan had been evading the arrest since the May 9 Supreme Court ruling that awarded him six months in prison for contempt of court.
Karnan, who won the dubious distinction of being the first Supreme Court judge to be tried by the surname court, had retired from service on June 12 as a fugitive.
