Pakistani troops attacked Indian border posts and villages along the international border (IB) in Jammu district in the nightly layoff and bombings, a senior BSF official said Monday.
There have been continuing violations of Pakistan’s cease-fire throughout the IB during the past four days, in which a BWJawan died and others were injured.
Pakistani troops began shooting at Indian posts in the Arnia sector around midnight, prompting Border Security Force (BSF) personnel to retaliate, the official said.
“The fire stopped at 6.45 am,” the officer said.
A temple, two houses, and three stables were damaged in the Pakistani fire in the villages of Sai, Treva, and Jabowl. Three animals were killed in the night bombing, the officer added.
BSF jawan Bijender Bahadur was killed and a villager injured yesterday when Pakistani troops resorted to shooting and bombing throughout the IB in the Arnia sector.
Two Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliation on Thursday by the BSF, while three Indian jawans were injured on Wednesday in bombings and bombings not inflicted by Pakistani troops along the IB and Control Line (LoC) in the districts of Jammu and Poonch.
Incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops have increased sharply this year. As of 1 August, there were 285 such actions by the Pakistani army, while in 2016, the number was significantly lower by 228 throughout the year, according to figures from the Indian Army.
