Rahul starts padyatra Telangana village, meets with farmers

Adilabad: Rahul Gandhi has added a new mandate to the arsenal used to attack the prime minister Narendra Modi, chief minister this time calling Telangana K Chandrashekhara Rao, or KCR, “mini-Modi”, while accusing both farmers neglect.

On Friday morning, Mr. Gandhi walked nearly 15 km to visit the families of farmers who committed suicide in the last year, in the district of Adilabad. “It’s very difficult to keep up with him. He walks so quickly,” said a villager with admiration.

In one village, Bondla Vasantha, whose husband committed suicide last year because of the debt, Mr. Gandhi said his plan to visit had encouraged the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Samiti or TRS to help. She overwhelmed fell at the feet of the Congress leader.

Congress says more than 900 farmers have committed suicide in Telangana in the last 10 months. But the state government says the number is less than 100 and Congress accused the previous government of neglecting the farmers in the region.

Last year, after ruling undivided Andhra Pradesh for a decade, Congress lost the elections in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana residual. Mr. Gandhi’s visit is also seen as an attempt to revitalize the party cadres.
