Mumbai: The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), made up of former Team India Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, began the interview process on Monday to find the replacement of Anil Kumble as coach of the Indian cricket team.
The two-stage Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) had invited applications for the post of head coach of India; First before the ICC Champions Trophy of 2017, and second after it, when Anil Kumble left the post after the differences with the captain Virat Kohli.
Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput, former coach of Goa Dodda Ganesh, former coach of Pakistan and Bangladesh and former West Indian cricket director Richard Pybus, and former coach of Ireland and West Indies Phil Simmons.
However, former Team India manager Ravi Shastri, former India starter and Delhi mentor Daredevils, Virender Sehwag, and former Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody are the top contenders for the job.
The interviews will be held at the headquarters of the Mumbai Cricket Association at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, where both Ganguly and Laxman have arrived. Tendulkar, who is not in the country, will join the team via Skype from London, while BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary convenes these meetings.
Ravi Shastri is also reported in London, although it is unclear whether his interview will be conducted via Skype or not.
Curiously, Shastri, who was relegated to the same job by Kumble a year ago, had received some criticism from Ganguly last year for not being present with the CAC in person.
