The strike by the RTC trade unions in Telangana reached its sixth day. Leaders of all political parties and mass organizations attended the all-party meeting held in Hyderabad on Wednesday in support of the RTC strike. All parties and public groups fully supported the strike. Operations are being designed to boost the strike. All party leaders are contemplating to organize Telangana bandh in support of the strike. Dharnas will be held in front of bus depots on Thursday.
Officials are riding buses with temporary employees as RTC workers are absent from work. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajaykumar has announced that the buses will run as scheduled from Thursday. The fare table was set up on each bus as allegations of misappropriation of some tickets were raised. Action will be taken against temporary employees who have taken only one rupee more than the ticket price. Bus passes will also be allowed. On the other hand, a public interest litigation filed in the High Court on the RTC strike is set to be heard again on Thursday.
The PIL was filed by OU Research Scholar Surendra Singh on Sunday to urge RTC workers to stop the strike immediately. In his lawsuit, he called for a committee on workers’ issues. The petitioner claimed in his lawsuit that the RTC had earlier promised to treat workers as government employees and that the strike was on as it was not yet implemented. The government requested the government to implement the pledges.
