Hyderabad: Rural development minister Jupally Krishna Rao said the government would use the MNREGA funds to dig wells to plant young trees as part of the planned third phase of Haritha Haram, which will be launched on 12 July.
He said the department had taken this decision to provide employment to people in rural areas under MNREGA in addition to improving green coverage in the state.
Addressing the media in the Secretariat, Mr. Rao said: “A goal of planting 42 young trees in the state has been set by the government for the third phase of Haritha Haram. In this, the panjayat raj and the department Of rural development will only plant 12 young trees “.
He said that the main minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was interested in improving green coverage from 24 percent to 33 percent in four years and to achieve this task 230 crore outbreaks will be planted in four years.
Mr. Rao said that of these 120 crore sprouts will be planted in non-forest areas and 10 crore in GHMC and HMDA boundaries.
“The goal is to plant 40,000 young trees in each village and 40 lakhs in each assembly constituency,” said Rao, “and 42 seedlings have been kept ready for use in 2,925 nurseries.
He said the department would sanction funds for the protection of young trees.
