New Delhi: BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma was attacked by Twitter users for allegedly conveying an image of the Gujarat riots in 2002 as violence in the Basirhat of West Bengal.
“Since the trolls spent a sleepless night covering the Basirhat violence, sharing media photos of the riots. I hope they report to @WBPolice as well,” Sharma posted on the microblogging site and attached a picture of charred vehicles with him.
The twiterrati, however, pointed out that the image was from 2002 and accused her of spreading a rumor.
A defiant Sharma said the photo reflected the reality of Bengal, regardless of location.
Some Twitter users tried to draw the attention of the Delhi police to the tweet and demanded that they be arrested.
“Ask @WBPolice to take my tweet as a complaint against @NupurSharmaBJP for their fake and provocative messages and arrest it immediately,” said a Twitter user.
“You can not rely on any BJP to handle these days. The movies, old riots are all happening like Bengal,” said another.
