Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has once again come out with a hat-trick. Malinga, who took four wickets in four consecutive balls in the third T20 match against New Zealand at the Pallekele Stadium on Friday night, became the first bowler to take a hat-trick. In the 2007 One-day World Cup, Malinga has taken four consecutive wickets against South Africa. Malinga also became the first bowler to take 100 wickets in international T20s.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 125 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Gunathilaka (30), Niroshan Dikwila (24) and Lahiru Madushaka (20) were not in the team. New Zealand bowlers Mitchell Santner and Todd Astley Chero took three wickets each.
The New Zealand side then went on to win at no stage. Malinga hit Colin Munro (12) for the third over of the innings. The team also lost their fifth wicket in the form of Tim Seifert (8). Tim Southee (28 not out: 3×6 off 28 balls) attempted to help the Kiwis with 23/5 at the end of 4.4 overs. But .. New Zealand’s team lost 88 runs in 16 overs as he was unable to make any contribution.
