Devi Pattanam Mandal in East Godavari district has finally found the spot where the boat that caused the immense tragedy of Godavari at Kachchaloor thickness has been identified. Experts who found the boat to be nearly 200 feet deep have begun efforts to uncover it. Specializing in uncovering sunken boats, the Kakinada-based Dharmadi Satyam team was brought in. The team carried equipment such as a four-inch-thick 600-foot-long nylon rope, a 22mm-thick iron rope, common ropes, anchors, and de-linkers.
It was thought that if the ropes were anchored and left inside, the boat would cling to them and then pull it out. However, the sinking area of the boat sits in the vortex, causing severe disturbances to relief efforts. Even the boats that were trying to pull it out were trying to pull it in. After a discussion with NDRF officer DN Singh and Uttarakhand DRF Inspector Jitendra Joshi, they decided that a 1,000-meter-long rope was needed to uncover the boat. Experts have suggested that the anchor could be built around the boat’s sinking area, leaving the rope as if it were in the water, and then pulling it to shore.
