Tapping Phone: More service providers Andhra appear before SIT

Representatives of the four providers of telecommunications services on Tuesday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Andhra Pradesh wiretapping by the government of Telangana alleged.

In response to the notices issued by the SIT, officers of three companies presented to the research team at the police station Bhavanipuram here. Representatives of five companies had appeared before the SIT on Monday, the first day of investigations.

SIT issued notices to 12 service providers, asking them furnished data calls from the last 90 days. They were also asked to give the list of persons whose phones were tapped and the names of those who ordered tapping.

The SIT also wanted to know if the permits were taken by the competent authorities before wiretapping.

Some service providers were reluctant to appear before SIT on the ground that it has no jurisdiction over them. SIT officials, however, conveyed to which as they are still operating under Andhra Pradesh circle, which has jurisdiction.

Andhra Pradesh Government has claimed that the government tapped phones Telangana Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his ministers.

Andhra government had last week constituted SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammed Iqbal to investigate the alleged wiretapping following cases recorded in Andhra Pradesh against the chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao Telangana minister.

No less than 87 cases were booked against KCR in various police stations in Andhra Pradesh after a TV station in Hyderabad on June 7 an audio tape of the telephone conversation supposed to Chandrababu Naidu with MLA nominee Elvis Stephenson Telangana was issued .

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Naidu and member of the assembly of Telangana Revanth Reddy was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Telangana (ACB), on May 31, while he tried to bribe Stephenson to induce him to vote for TDP -BJP candidate in the elections of the Legislative Council.

The government of Andhra TDP has also addressed the issue of wiretapping with the Centre seeking a thorough probe.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Telangana government has denied the allegations of wiretapping and is making unfounded Naidu alleged to escape the law in case of money for votes accusations.
