Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman in BCCI panel
Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman constitute the advisory committee of the BCCI cricket. The decision was announced by the secretary Anurag Thakur after a conference call with them on Monday morning.
The committee, the brainchild of Thakur and BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, be consulted on all decisions related to cricket. One of the main tasks of the committee, it is understood, it is to launch the procedure for appointing the head coach or team manager of the Indian team.
“I just came to know about the commission, rest do not know. I do not even know what the role of the advisory committee. (But) I’m happy to work with Sachin and Laxman,” Ganguly said.
If Ravi Shastri, who had acted as team manager for six months prior to the celebration of the World Cup 2015 is not available for the tour of India to Bangladesh later this month, then a member of the newly appointed committee can join the Indian team in a mentoring role.
In the longer term, the committee expects the BCCI is a facilitator between administrators and cricketers. The trio is likely to be consulted to improve the development of cricket in the Indian cricket. During the next three months, the committee will be asked to prepare a plan to increase the talent pool of cricketers from India and mentoring young cricket players and India on technical and mental aspects ahead of the main tasks.
“I am happy to note that our eminent cricket players have come forward to lend their expertise as we work for a common goal to make Cricket in India to greater heights,” said BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya in a statement Press. “The new generations are bound to benefit from the guidance will be provided by these luminaires and will go a long way in strengthening our current system.”
BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said his “invaluable advice help Indian cricket regain its leadership position in all formats of the game.”
Thakur and Dalmiya had explained his intentions to form the advisory committee after he was elected in March. The duo had initially approached Ganguly, Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. While Dravid was not available to the role, Tendulkar had requested more details on the functioning of the committee.
