Children born with deformities are often reported from around the world, and in many cases these can become fatal. But what is most heartbreaking is how these children face isolation and are abandoned by society as well as by parents in many cases.
Simon Sama of Thailand was born with an abnormally large head in January and doctors had to operate to drain excess fluid. The change in pressure caused his skull to collapse leaving a deep cavity of two inches in his head.
But as the child still needs treatment as soon as possible to survive, his parents abandoned him when they left Simon with his grandmother. Simon’s grandmother describes her life as a vegetable, as she can not crawl or make noise like other children her age.
Meanwhile his head continues to swell and doctors are not sure whether Simon will get something better or not get worse. The cavity seems to be increasing as the baby waits for the next hospital appointment to decide the course of treatment.
